STAFF DEVELOPMENT COORDINATOR

Salary Range: $72,149 - $82,149 per year

This is a full-time, provisional appointment contingent upon Civil Service examination.

An employee in this class is responsible for directing, planning, organizing and developing a comprehensive staff development program. The goal of the program is to promote and enhance staff performance utilizing in-house, state and community resources; thereby resulting in a more effective social service delivery system. Responsibilities also include participating in agency policy development and reorganization. Work is performed under the general direction of the Commissioner of Social Services in accordance with established staff development policies and objectives. Technical consultation and assistance for carrying out the objectives if the State Department Bureau of Training and Workforce Development provide this program.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABLITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:  Good knowledge of the principles and practices of conducting a staff development program; Working knowledge of the principles and practices of social casework; Working knowledge of Federal, State, and local public welfare laws and programs; Ability to plan and develop training outlines; Ability to analyze jobs, function, and problems; Ability to assist in implementing training programs; Ability to write clear and accurate reports and records; Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with people; Good judgment; Emotional maturity; Resourcefulness; Initiative and tact; Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

A.       Possession of Master’s Degree in Social Work or a related field from a regionally accredited or New York State College and one (1) year of full time paid experience in social work, or teaching, planning, developing and supervising in-service training; OR

B.       Possession of a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work or a related field from a regionally accredited or New York State registered four (4) year college and two years of full time paid experience in social work, or teaching, planning, developing and supervising in-service training;  OR

C.      Any equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B) above.

NOTE: Your degree must have been awarded by a college or university accredited by a regional, national or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education/US Secretary of Education.  If your degree was awarded by an educational institution outside the United States and its territories, you must provide independent verification of equivalency.  A list of acceptable companies who provide this service can be found on the Internet at http://www.cs.ny.gov/jobseeker/degrees.cfm.
