NYSAC Board of Directors Attend High Performance Leadership Training Capsule
The NYSAC Board of Directors, at its recent annual June meeting, attended a abridged High-Performance Leadership Academy training designed to equip frontline county government professionals with practical leadership skills to deliver results for counties and communities.
The interactive presentation was conducted by Dr. Timothy Rahschulte, co-founder of the Professional Development Academy with General Colin Powell. The Academy and the High Performance Leadership Academy are part of the county leadership regimen provided in partnership with the National Association of Counties (NACo).
Dr. Rahschulte and his team at the Academy built a robust curriculum in partnership with Fortune 1000 executives, public sector leaders, world-renowned academics and thought leaders. The High-Performance Leadership Academy was designed specifically for the unique challenges and opportunities of serving in county government and has trained more than 10,000 county officials from across the nation, including several hundred in New York State.
NYSAC, in partnership with NACo, encourages county leaders to send employees through the Academy to promote professional development, strengthen leadership succession planning, and foster professional training for local public servants.
“The NACo High Performance Leadership Academy empowers frontline county government professionals with fundamental, practical leadership skills to deliver results for counties and residents,” said NYSAC Executive Director Stephen Acquario, who is a graduate of the program. “At a time when counties are facing unprecedent challenges to recruitment and retention, this program strengthens our workforce and empowers our local public servants to lead their departments and communities into a better future.”
Each leadership training program is guided by an expert moderator to help keep participants on track, and a world-class faculty of prominent public, private and academic sector leaders deliver engaging and thought-provoking sessions.
NACo's High Performance Leadership Academy focuses on five practical skills:
- Leadership: engaging teams and stakeholders to foster positive cultures
- Organizing: planning, leading and executing organizational change
- Collaboration: aligning strong partnerships through relationship building
- Communication: Creating clarity, confidence and community
- Delivering Results: Measuring results that align with community priorities
“When frontline staff are empowered as leaders, they deliver services more effectively. The NACo High Performance Leadership Academy uses an innovative, interactive online learning platform that combines real-time webinars, recorded sessions and small group discussions to deliver effective training without traveling away from the county – saving money and maximizing time,” said Dr. Rahschulte.
