Municipal Associations Host Inaugural ‘Municipal Day’
For the first time in their collective histories, New York's three associations representing local governments—the New York State Conference of Mayors (NYCOM), New York State Association of Counties (NYSAC), and the New York Association of Towns (AOT) joined forces on January 28th and 29th for the first annual Municipal Day and local government summit event.
Sponsored by Senator Monica Martinez, Assemblyman Billy Jones and Senator Christopher Ryan, the tri-association advocacy day and educational summit brought together state legislators, policymakers, and leaders from local government associations at the Empire State Plaza on Monday to address key challenges and policy priorities for municipalities across New York State. The advocacy booths in the LOB provided an opportunity for each of the three associations to highlight legislative and budget priorities for the 2025 legislative session and the SFY 25-26 Enacted Budget negotiation.
On Tuesday, the local government summit featured information for legislators and their staff on topics such as housing affordability, emergency services funding, infrastructure development, and workforce challenges. Each executive director outlined their respective associations’ perspective and position on these issues. The summit concluded with a networking session where legislators and association staff engaged in open dialogue to identify shared policy goals and strategies.
The 2025 Municipal Day highlighted the importance of collaboration between local governments and state officials to build stronger, more resilient communities. The three associations will look to build upon this event to enhance awareness of the functions, services and programs local governments provide to our mutual constituents—the people of the State of New York.
