Jefferson County is seeking a skilled attorney to serve as chief legal counsel for Jefferson County government.  The successful candidate will be responsible for representing Jefferson County in legal proceedings, including litigation and administrative hearings.  The incumbent serves as legal counsel for the Legislative Board and Department Heads.  The position is also responsible for preparing ordinances, local laws, and resolutions; supervising the work of subordinate attorneys; establishing policies and procedures for the proper functioning of the office’ and representing the County in various legal proceedings related to insurance claims, Family Court, tax collection and enforcement, building code enforcement etc.

Salary Range:  $117,731 - $132,508   per year.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Possession of a license to practice law in New York State and five years of experience in practicing law.
