Counties Call for Comprehensive PFAS Solutions in Assembly Comments

NYSAC submitted written testimony to the Assembly Environmental Conservation Committee this week as part of a hearing examining PFAS contamination in the environment. The comments emphasized the urgent need for comprehensive PFAS regulations and manufacturer accountability, highlighting the mounting costs facing local governments.

NYSAC's testimony outlined critical concerns about landfill leachate management, biosolids regulations, and the strain on local health departments' monitoring capabilities. Counties are calling for New York State to lead the nation in developing a truly comprehensive approach to PFAS contamination that protects both the environment and taxpayers by ensuring manufacturers bear their fair share of cleanup costs rather than passing the burden to local governments and ratepayers.
