Position: Assistant District Attorney
Location: Tompkins County, NY
Responsibilities:
As an Assistant District Attorney, you will play a crucial role in the pursuit of justice within our community. Your responsibilities will include:
- Prosecution: Effectively prosecute criminal cases, ranging from misdemeanors to felonies, in accordance with state and federal laws.
- Legal Research: Conduct thorough legal research to build strong cases, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of relevant statutes and case law.
- Courtroom Advocacy: Represent the State in court proceedings, presenting cases persuasively, and advocating for the interests of justice.
- Collaboration: Work closely with law enforcement agencies, victim advocates, and other legal professionals to ensure seamless coordination throughout the legal process.
- Case Management: Manage a caseload efficiently, from initial investigation through trial, while maintaining accurate and up-to-date case records.
- Community Outreach: Engage with the community through educational programs and outreach initiatives to promote understanding of legal processes and foster positive relationships, with a particular emphasis on building relationships with multicultural and multiracial communities. Utilizing knowledge and understanding of systemic issues within the criminal justice system to enhance community relationships and address disparities.
Qualifications & Abilities:
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
- Admittance to the New York State Bar.
- Strong understanding of criminal law and legal procedures.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Prior experience in criminal prosecution is preferred but not required.
- Demonstrated strong knowledge and understanding of systemic issues within the criminal justice system.
- Ability to successfully work with multiracial and multicultural communities.
- Ability to develop and maintain working relationships with diverse internal and external community members.
