Project Description

NYSAC launched the Workforce Intelligence Project, under a grant from the New York State Department of Labor, to assist communities in meeting the economic and workforce challenges New York State is encountering now and will encounter in the future. The project is designed to promote active dialogue between local elected and community leaders on a regional basis, on the challenges and opportunities they will face in bringing about an economic renewal.

About the Workforce Intelligence Project

NYSAC To Host Regional Briefings on Job Creation

The national recession is taking firm hold in New York State with increasing business closings, layoffs and the rising unemployment rates that result. Counties across New York are facing increasing demand for services from residents in need during this time of national economic crisis.

The focus of this briefing session will be to discuss ways the federal stimulus funding can be used to assist the unemployed residents of your county and to invest in business sectors with potential for growth.

Building Regional Economies Through Targeted Workforce Development

This report includes a case study of the Computer and Electronic Product Manufacturing industry sector in the Greater Capital Region; it also features a "how to" guide on how to conduct an industry sector analysis. This will be particularly valuable to county elected leaders and other key community players as they try to revitalize regional economies through workforce development strategies targeted to promising industry sectors with real growth potential.

The Southern Tier Pilot

Results

This analysis is intended to assist regional strategic planning efforts in identifying sectors and industries to target for the purpose of workforce and economic development. Prepared by Warren Brown of Cornell University, the report examines jobs in manufacturing for each of New York State’s ten Labor Market Regions.

The Workforce Intelligence Project continues to produce a range of results, all of which are designed to support counties' efforts to understand the interaction between their economy and the workforce in their communities.
